Windows 11: Microsoft offers tabs in Notepad, first to testers

Microsoft has started testing for tabs in its Notepad application on Windows 11. The arrival is not really a surprise knowing that an employee had mistakenly revealed the existence of this novelty. This dated back to the holiday season.

Support for tabs in Notepad lets you work with multiple files in a single window, similar to how Microsoft implemented tabs in Windows 11’s File Explorer. new hotkeys to support tab management, as well as some improvements to handling unsaved files, such as automatically generating the filename/tab title based on content and an updated change indicator unregistered,” says Dave Grochocki, senior product manager at Microsoft.

The novelty is currently available from testers who are part of the Windows Insider program. This is Windows 11 build 25281, currently distributed on the Dev channel. The public will have to wait a few weeks or even a few months to enjoy it with the traditional updates of the operating system.

The update is also an opportunity for Microsoft to refresh the graphics settings page in Windows 11. This includes settings related to graphics card (GPU) preference, Auto HDR and optimizations for games in mode window. The settings page now has the Windows 11 UI design and the settings have been redesigned to make it a bit easier to use and apply graphics preferences to games and apps.
