Timeline – Fishing quotas for EU-UK shared stocks

Provisional quotas for 2023 for stocks shared with the UK

At the December 2022 Council meeting, EU fisheries ministers reached an agreement on fishing opportunities in the Atlantic, North Sea, Mediterranean and Black Sea for 2023, as well as for certain deep-sea stocks for 2023 and 2024. Discussions within the framework of the EU-UK bilateral consultations still ongoing, ministers agreed on provisional catch limits for stocks shared between the EU and the UK for first three months of 2023pending a final agreement.

The provisional catch limits include a temporary renewal of the existing fishing opportunities for the first three months, with a ratio of 25% compared to this year’s TAC levels, in order to cover the first quarter of 2023. For certain fisheries where the fishing takes place mainly during the first part of the year, this seasonality has been taken into account.
