Galadriel, cult character from Tolkien’s works, reveals herself a little more in the latest teaser of the series The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power.
Fans are waiting for it: the Amazon Prime Video series on the Lord of the Rings may be the most expensive in history, it will not be enough to convince. Before being a famous trilogy of films and a pillar of pop culture, the work of JRR Tolkien is a monument of literature. Despite its density, the mythology deployed by the writer has since been widely read and digested by several generations of admirers of his universe. It is one of the most complex and accomplished imaginaries belonging to world culture.. adapt it is therefore extremely delicate, even more so when it comes to taking certain liberties with mythical characters like the elf Galadriel.
In Le Silmarillion, Tolkien’s colossal unfinished compendium, the story of Galadriel is one of the oldest and most mysterious. She is both one of the wisest figures in Middle-earth and Sauron’s adversary over several ages. Allied to the Fellowship of the Ring in Peter Jackson’s first film, Galadriel appeared briefly in the guise of Cate Blanchett, in an ethereal, almost divine form, with diaphanous and magical beauty. In the Amazon series, she will appear younger as Morfydd Clark in a more humanized version of his character.. She reveals herself in the last teaser posted on Twitter.

The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power should adapt neither the universe of Peter Jackson nor that of the books of which they do not have the rights, rather fleshing out the notes of the author (his appendices) on his universe to create an unpublished narrative. We realize this in this teaser, where certain characters are a priori unknown to the battalion and yet very main. While on the other hand, facts (from the books) known to the fans are brought up head-on. Galadriel, shown as a proactive warrior and heroine future events will therefore be the central figure.
A radically different incarnation of her role as mentor and protector in the films of Peter Jackson. A potentially interesting idea to renew the character and exploiting another of its facets – Tolkien himself considered different versions of Galadriel. Howeverthe risk here could be to reduce its aura and turn a thousand-year-old myth into a banal story of revenge. This is indeed the motivation that is evoked by the actress Morfydd Clark. In particular, she describes her character as optimistic and stubborn. Traits that often suit young adventurers more than an old Eldar such as Galadriel.
Galadriel will have to hold on tight
Galadriel will therefore be one of the protagonists among the (too) vast gallery of characters in the Amazon series, and she should fight Sauron alongside Beldor, Isildur, Celebrimbor and others. The famous servant of Morgoth and antagonist of the Lord of the Rings will also have to convince, if not even more than Galadriel. As an avatar of polymorphic evil (that is to say as seductive as it is mischievous), he will have to be treated by the staging and the screenplay with the greatest care.
So we look forward to The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power to discover the result of such an ambitious project and this perilous adaptation. If the freedom of this one is not to be condemned (on the contrary), its capacity to do justice to the emblematic figures of Tolkien will have a major influence on the appreciation of the public. See you next September 2 on Amazon Prime Video to see the first two episodes.
