Microsoft lays off 10,000 people

The rumor had been strong for a few days. Satya Nadella, CEO of Microsoft confirmed it: the company is cutting 10,000 jobs, causing as many layoffs.

The latter represent 5% of all employees. The CEO indicated that all these people would be supported for several months, in different forms: severance pay “ superior to what is practiced on the market “, an extended medical coverage of six months, ditto for participation, career transition services, etc.

The persons concerned will be notified at least 60 days in advance. The conditions are the same for employees working in countries other than the United States.

I want to express my deepest thanks and gratitude to everyone who has contributed to Microsoft to date and to each of you who will continue to do so. […]. Thank you for the focus, dedication, and resilience you have shown to Microsoft, our customers, and our partners every day. Nadella said.

For the rest, the reasons given are the same as almost everywhere else: an acceleration of the transition to digital during the pandemic, then a slowdown, coming from a need to optimize the costs generated, certain markets in recession, others which are considering it…

Even here, Nadella couldn’t help but talk about AI, stating that “ the next major wave of computing is emerging “, Microsoft being in the process of transforming “ the world’s most advanced models in a new platform “. Moreover, the CEO confirmed that these 10,000 departures did not change the hiring in progress in the growing sectors.
