Amazon is accelerating in Africa, to the chagrin of local players – Jeune Afrique

Bad news for Konga, Jumia and Takealot. The three e-commerce leaders in Nigeria and South Africa see Amazon’s ambitions growing on their own playgrounds. The American juggernaut has in fact planned to deploy the market place that has made it successful in the two largest economies on the continent.

Called “Project Fela”, the new attack plan implemented by the group founded by Jeff Bezos and from now on led by Andrew Jassy, ​​also includes a new strategy for Amazon Web Services (AWS), the entity dedicated to data hosting services. The latter wishes to target start-ups in Nigeria more. An acceleration is also planned for Prime Video, the video streaming service of the giant American.
